Firefly 850 One Design

The Firefly 850 one-design is a stylish, fast, exciting coastal racing or weekend cruising catamaran. The hulls are wide enough to provide a cozy double berth, while weight and construction costs are kept to a minimum. The boat has the added advantage of being demountable so it can be trailed to races or cruising areas.

In 2005, Mark Pescott starting working with Latitude 8 Yachts in Phuket, to start producing the Firefly 850 in Thailand.

Lombok 11.5 (New)

The Lombok 11.5 design is the first in a series of new performance cruising catamaran designs and is a development of the Whitehaven series.

The hull shape and build process features a continual transition from hull to deck and a softer flare in the hull. Construction can be in Strip Plank WRC or Foam Sandwich but in either case the hull are built up to WL1000 with the deck section built separately and fibreglassed on the inside only before being positioned.

Whitehaven Series

The Whitehaven series of performance cruising catamarans represents an accumulation of design development and build techniques that have been developed by Ross Blair and Mark Pescott over 14 years since the Whitehaven series were first drawn.

Whitehaven catamarans are renowned for their seaworthiness and sea kindly motion, their excellent performance and their sailability. These catamarans have very efficient hull shapes and low windage, thus requiring less sail area than other designs of similar length and accommodation.

Power Cats

The Zenone 45 and Rinjani 13.8 power cats have been designed with fuel efficiency foremost in mind. The resultant hull shapes are therefore more akin to modified sailing hull shapes rather than a normal brutish power hull shape that requires high horsepower to move it thru the water.

The Zenone 45 is unique open cockpit design whilst the Rinjani 13.8 has a more conventional layout.

Fireblade Series

The Fireblade catamarans are an exciting range of performance sailing catamarans that are a development of the open cockpit Whitehaven 10.95, Seekronghuk, built for Tim Milner by Latitude 8 Yachts in Phuket.

This design range maximizes the enjoyment of sailing a performance catamaran with the large open cockpit offering excellent all round visibility. With the large optional solid bimini roof it also makes an ideal short or long term cruiser, especially for the tropics.

Spitzfire 8.5

The SpitZfire 8.5 is a new design that fits into the NZMYC 8.5 Metre Box rule, and is based on my experiences both building and racing the Firefly 850 One Design.

Hull shape is similar but with a lighter design displacement to make benefit of the fact that the “on the water” racing weight will be 200kg less at around 1200 kg including crew.
